Nairobi National Park Safari

The only city in the world with a national park on its doorstep. Nairobi National Park sits just 7 kilometres from the CBD — a 117-square-kilometre wilderness of open grassland, acacia forest and seasonal wetlands where lion, leopard, rhino, buffalo and over 400 bird species live against a backdrop of city skyscrapers. There is nowhere else on earth you can watch a black rhino graze with office towers rising behind it. The safari covers the park's main game circuit by 4x4 vehicle, taking in the open plains in the south, the Athi River basin, the hippo pools and the famous Ivory Burning Site monument. A full game drive runs 4–5 hours and covers roughly 50 kilometres of murram track. Morning departures catch the big cats before the heat sets in; the light in the first two hours after sunrise is also the best for photography. Our guides are KWS-certified and have been driving this park for years. They know where the rhino were spotted yesterday, which kopje the lions favour this season, and when to cut the engine and let the silence do its work.
