Kanunga Falls drops through a hidden gorge on the eastern edge of the Aberdare foothills — close enough to the city for a day trip, wild enough to feel like a proper discovery. The trail follows the Kanunga River through small farms, riverine forest and boulder-strewn riverbed before opening into the spray zone below the falls. It is the kind of place locals know and visitors rarely find. The route covers roughly 12 kilometres out and back and takes 4–5 hours at an easy pace. The path is mostly flat with one steep descent to the falls themselves — nothing technical, but wear shoes you do not mind getting wet. The pool at the base is cold, clear and worth every step. Our guides have been walking this valley for years. We move at a pace that lets you look around, carry the safety kit, and handle the small river crossings so you can keep your mind on the water and the forest.
